Should my player attend all tryout sessions?

Yes, we would like to see players at as many tryouts as possible. The more sessions your player attends, the better feel we can get for that player.  Players must participate in tryouts to be eligible for a team.  Special exceptions may be made for players with serious scheduling conflicts, provided the following:

  • The player pre-registered for tryouts online
  • The DOC was given prior notification of the conflicting schedule

How Will Players Be Evaluated?

Soccer is a player’s game. It is a game where a player’s value is determined by how he/she impacts the game. Dallas Texans Florida Coaches are trained to know what characteristics are important in determining the potential of a player.  Coaches will ask players to perform agility and acceleration exercises to test athleticism. You will see small group exercises so we can watch the player get multiple touches with the ball as we check for technical speed and speed of thought. Finally, you will see the kids play as we look for not only the impact they make on the game but how they make that impact.

Tryouts will be conducted by professional coaches chosen by the DOC.  Parents, managers, and/or board members will not be involved in the evaluation process of any player.

Who determines which players are selected to the team?

Team selections are made by the individual team coach(s) and approved by the DOC.

How many players will be on a team?

Roster sizes will be determined by each coach, along with the DOC, and take into consideration the need for a sufficient number of subs, yet not exceed FYSA roster limits.

Will some players be “cut” or does everybody make a team?

The goal will be to form the most competitive team(s) in each age division for both girls and boys. Unfortunately, this means that at times players will have to be cut.  If at all possible, we will seek to form multiple leveled teams. The highest level team will be known as the Dallas Texans Florida.  The 2nd level team will be known as Dallas Texans Florida Red, followed by Dallas Texans Florida White.  Regardless of the level of team a player is on, we can assure you that by the end of the playing season, you will see a remarkable difference in his/her playing ability.

What do I need to do to try-out for a Dallas Texans Florida Team?

  • All players interested in trying out for a team are strongly encouraged to pre-register online by May 25th to expedite the player check-in process.  (Past due player accounts must be made current before a player will be allowed to tryout again. Exceptions may be made if approved by the Accounts Receivable manager, Rhonda Iserman beforehand.)

  • All players must try-out for their natural age group unless the player is already rostered to an older PFC team. All other players that would like to “play up” an age bracket must first request permission by emailing Coach Kemp at doc@dallastexansflorida.com .
  • Players will be asked to print the form or email confirming their registration and bring it with them to tryouts.
  • Arrive at the fields 30-45 minutes before the scheduled tryout time for your age group / division.  Tryouts are scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM or 7:30 PM, depending on age group / division. Updates to the tryout schedule and team announcements will be sent via email to players that pre-registered online. Please make sure you include a valid email address when registering.
  • Report to the “Player Check In” tent by the fields upon arrival.
  • Players will be provided a try-out number upon presenting their try-out registration form & directed to the appropriate field for their specific age group. Numbers should be applied to the front of the player’s shorts.
  • Players should gather their ball and water and report to the coach at the designated field and begin warming up.
  • Parents are welcome to observe tryouts from the parking areas, but we ask that you leave the fields to only the players trying out and the coaches.

What do I bring to tryouts?

Players should bring their pre-registration form, shin guards, cleats, a ball, and water.

When will we be notified if we made the team?

Coaches will notify players by May 30th if they made a DTF team.  They will have until June 6th to accept or decline their spot on the team.

What happens after that?

A player “signing day” will be held Saturday, June 6th from 10-2 to collect registration materials (including the registration fee of $175), perform uniform sizing and meet fellow players & coaches.

A team manager, decided by the coach, will facilitate communication through the summer.

Players in the U13-U18 age groups are expected to attend the Dallas Texans Florida College Expo and Team Camp at Ashton Brosnaham Park on July 17-19th. Players selected for U11 - U12 teams should attend the DTF Team Camp on June 25-27th.
