Gulf Coast Texans WPSL Team records first ever
wins on road trip to South Florida!

 

June 6th, 2011 Pensacola, FL- The Gulf Coast Texans WPSL team recorded it's first wins in the WPSL, following a very productive road trip to South Florida. Wins over the South Florida Strikers and Palm Beach United boosted the squad after dropping their Home opener against Florida Sol FC on Memorial Day. Saturday night's game against the Strikers was the opening game in the CASA Soccer Festival which featured the Championship Games of their Super League, providing the Texan team with a colorful atmosphere and a rich cultural experience. They recorded their first ever WPSL win and also won over some of the local fans in attendance, "We have 3 Jamaicans on the team, so we benefitted from some great support in the stands from the fans of the CASA playoff finals, and also had the privilege to meet some fantastic people after the game. It was a unique atmosphere," said Coach David Kemp. Shakira Duncan buried a shot from the top of the 18 yard box with about 8 minutes to go to seal the points and give the Texans their first points of the 2011 season.

 

Sunday's game against Palm Beach United saw the Texans score late in the game again, through Tina Murray, to make it 2 wins in a row. "Palm Beach United are a quality team with some great players, and were unlucky to not get anything from the game. This win will give us confidence as we head on the road again next weekend," Kemp stated.

 

Lorna Brownlie's performances in the net for the Texans earned her a spot on the WPSL Team of the Week, as the team recorded 2 shutouts. The former Scottish Youth National Team member and current University of Mobile Goalkeeper was solid all weekend and is the first player from the team to be honored by the WPSL. www.gulfcoasttexans.com
